Malachi was thorough and correct - everything so far has been on schedule and on time. So far - so good. Pastor Chris, Paul LeFeber (from the famous Romanian band "Paul LeFeber and The Demon of Cool"), Angie, Kristen, Brett (Intern #4) and a huge envoy of parents and siblings were there to see us off. Chris prayed over our team and we were off! We left Madison on time with 25 people and 48 bags (all but two are also lugging around a "team bag" until we get to Craiova - filled with supplies for English, sports, and crafts and donations from the drive at church.
We watched Ice Age on the bus after a quick audible stop at Target in Janesville - we realized that the Romanians would love a little "Catch Phrase" - especially at English camp, so stopped to get a few of those. We're all sitting next to each other on the plane - check-in and security went faster than it does when it's just Emily and me. Pat has collected passports, connection boarding passes, and bag claim tickets - so we're set there.
Well, as Malachi said, there is not a whole lot to say at this point - which is exactly what we want at this stage in the game - just how we want it. I'm sure within 24 hours (esp. 48) we'll have a lot more to offer. The flight ahead of us will be about 8 hours and 20 minutes to Paris. We'll have 1.5 hours to catch our connecting to Bucharest, and a 3 hour flight from there! Daniel has a large bus and will be picking us up with about a dozen students! 2.5 hours later, we'll be in Craiova, sometime on Thursday night (or Thursday late morning in Madison). That will likely be the next time we post anything. Until then - keep praying! Thanks for everything - We love you guys.
Now for our first installment of daily "Shoutouts":
-Josh is wondering if anyone knows the current conversion rate for gummy bears to gummy worms.
-Larry says we're still within budget - phew...
-Brooke says "Hey Honeybutt - I miss you!"
-Pat would like Mrs. Smiley to know that we still have Megan.
-Jessweeka to Bonquiffy: hey doo hey.
-Makenzie: miss you mom - if Hunter doesn't write on the blog, the minute he get's home from camp - I'm sending Josh after you (and you know what that means!).
-Lief reminds Brett that any painting or furniture switches in the office must be undone by July 30... (and for now, I think Nikki gets dibbs on my desk chair when you're both there).
-Lief for the 2009 Romania Team

GET READY FOR A CRAZAY ADVENTURE!!! I'm so excited to read all about it :D
Nice photos on the bus. Glad everything has gone well so far. Where was Matt on the bus? Sleeping already?
Hey All,
Glad everything is uneventful! Hope you sleep on the plane Lauren! (Can someone slip her a sleeping pill?) Say hi to Paris for me! Keep up that loving Christian bonding; you may not feel so loving in a few days :) ! Praying for you!
We have consulted a knowledgable Gummy Exchange Expert...Noah Stevens. Your answer is 3.762 Gummy Bears to 1 Gummy Worm!!
Zack and Lief should be on the same team for Catch Phrase as Z says "Ummmm, okay..." at each turn! :)
Hope you all slept well on the plane! God speed.... Can't wait for the next post!
Just to read the words that you guys are on your way to "Paris" is so cool. (Yes Dad's can say "cool" too.) I know everyone is praying their knees off for you guys. You can just sense that God has great plans for this trip. Everyone should be getting to the "silly point" sometime in the next six hours, should make for some interesting stories. We look forward to hearing all of the great details as they happen and when you return. PS Megan- Ham has been looking for you all day. I think someone needs to feed him.
Dad Smiley
To dani, just heard back from the bank, and they said Amcore bank cards DO NOT work in 3 Countries, and Romania happens to be one of them...so it will NOT work in Romania, so use your cash and use the card everywhere else... someone slip Dani one of those sleeping pills too.haha Have fun praying for your entire team...love you punkin Mom
Looking forward to hearing what awesome things God is going to do through all of you. Matt can't wait to start to hear about some of youor experiences. Have a great time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Don't let Lief play Catch Phrase with the Romanians. Seriously.
Megan can't wait to hear about your adventures. Hope you get to see Paris (from the window of the plane).
Pat, I couldn't stop laughing when I read your message. I appreciate your sense of humor and your watchful eye....

Hello Lief.
1. I will not take down the High School Musical wallpaper I put up the minute you left.
2. I've decided the desk belongs to whoever has been in the office the most this summer (which means when you get back it will still be mine).
3. If you play Catch Phrase in Romania, I think you should sit out. If they see you playing, I'm afraid they'll never let you back into the country.
Zack:
Hope the flight over was "restful". Hope you had a chance to ride the bouncing escalators in the Paris airport.
We're all praying for the team and know great things will be happening across "the pond". Love you, Nana P. Sweeney
